John Hines
Exhibition of works
Vernissage: 15 September, 18:00
An alumnus of the Extended Support Programme, John Hines graduated from Ecolint in 2020, and has since pursued Foundation courses in painting and drawing. This exhibition highlights the progression of his artistic ability, vision and style over the last two years of study. His skills have developed through extensive experimentation with different drawing and painting techniques, particularly inspired by the work of well-known asters, including Leonardo Da Vinci, Paul Cézanne, Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein and Vassily Kandinsky.
Distinctive to his emerging style are vibrant colours and strongly defined outlines, including geometric designs that play on harmony and contrast between solid colour blocks, or collages that draw the eye into a busy subject surrounded by monochrome backgrounds. The meticulous attention to detail and precise observation that have always characterized John’s work have become increasingly enhanced with dramatic colour combinations and contrasts, giving the subjects and compositions an abstract aspect but often maintaining a connection to the real world. This progression towards the abstract can particularly be seen in the exhibition’s concluding material.
